Tern Wardening

 3rd May

An early rise for me to get on site by 7.00am, a lovely sunny morning and lots of yellow wagtails down the track and 2 wheatears. Met MC who was already there as the tide was beginning to expose the horse Sands in places. Here c80 common terns were up and down feeding in the shallow water and resting on one area were 6 little terns but they weren't ready to come on the Coote.

We saw 42 species whilst here inc. 2 Egyptian geese, 1 corn bunting, 2 Sandwich tern, 2 swafts, 1 house martin, 2 Med gulls, 1 sand martin, 2 whimbrel flying past and 5 gadwall kept rising up from the dykes to have a fly around.

                                                                           Gadwall

                                                                           Avocet

Watched this whimbrel dismember a poor crab

The whimbrel looked quite small against the black-headed gull

                                                                Yellow Wagtail
